How air pollution is destroying our health
WHO data show that almost all of the world's population (99%) breathe air that exceeds WHO guideline limits and is highly polluted, with exposures in low- and middle-income countries (LMIC) being the highest. Outdoor (ambient) air pollution in urban areas and in rural areas is responsible for causing fine particulates that result in strokes, heart disease, lung cancer, and acute and chronic respiratory disease. An estimated 2.6 billion also expose themselves to toxic levels of household air pollution resulting from using polluting open fires or simple stoves burning kerosene, biomass (wood, animal dung and crop waste) and coal.
The air pollution is the biggest environmental health risk of our time.
